i picked up 5 other kids from their various homes and headed to the musuem. leah was there with her kidlets and off we went to explore the musuem.
we had the most annoying tour guide ever. when she found out that we were homeschoolers, she starting being all condescending and rude. i swear, i wanted to smack her silly. unfortunately, i was in mummy mode and had to be the mature responsible adult and not assault the close-minded asshat in the tour-guide uniform. honestly, where does this attitude of superiority come from? i certainly would never criticise someone for sending their kids to public school. i expect the same level of respect considering how i educate my children.
they had a group of little old ladies there all wearing hats and their sunday best. they were part of a group who specialise in miniature mammoth making. they make tiny whooly mammoths! apparently they come to the musuem for inspiration. mini whooly mammoths. i'm still trying to get my mind around it. odd. they wouldn't let me take many pictures. apparently because i was using the cameraphone. they have cell phones banned at the musuem, mustn't disturb the mammoths. i tried explaining i was only going to use it for pictures, but they were pretty firm on it. i didn't think it would look good to get tossed out of the musuem in front of the kidlets. especially since this was supposed to be a teaching excercise. so i was polite and respectful, mostly. i did manage to get a picture of the mammoth and one of the totem's. pics below.
there was a saltwater tank and they had a huge barnacle shell that the kids could climb in and see how to catch food. there was also a exhibit on whales and how they stay warm in the water. there was a bear exhibit showing the black bear and the grizzly and of course, the whooly mammoth too. they also learned about the history of the first nations which was cool. i'm always trying to expose her to different cultures and beliefs. overall, it was a good day. afterwards, we went to milestones. ate, dropped kids off at their respective homes, came home, i collapsed from exhaustion while elisabeth recounted the whole day.

the great whooly mammoth

this is one of the totem's from the first nations, it's called nootka.
