embrace the peace

elisabeth and i participated in the season for non-violence today. it's to commemorate civil rights leaders gandhi and dr. king. we sang songs about peace and love and learned how to make a peace chain. to make a peace chain, each child (or adult) writes a peaceful thought on a piece of construction paper. the paper is rolled into a ring and other rings are connected. i hope to make a chain with my homeschooling group. they had local ministers and even a buddhist (yay for alt. religions!) read quotes from gandhi and dr. king. non-violence season lasts until april 4, which is the anniversary of dr. king's death. piglet and i had fun. with all the depressing news in the world it's nice to have something that gives you hope.

"everybody be peaceful, even when you're sad. learn to cope and offer hope when things are going bad."

i watched oprah today and received quite a shock. she did a show on clutterbugs and looking at their houses sent my inner neat freak into overdrive. according to oprah, 2/3 of american families are living in clutter. yikes! greg was a pack rack and it's taken me years to break him of that habit. constant vigilance! *g* i'm the opposite, always giving away what i don't need. after you've moved a gazillion times packing up all that junk isn't so much fun.

in other tv news, we watched wife swap mainly because they had a pagan family on there. the pagan mum switched h a family focused on motorcycle riding. i admit, i've never seen it before and was waiting for them to skewer pagan life. it wasn't too bad, well not as bad as i expected. the pagan parents did take it a bit too far. your kids well being is a hell of a lot more important than being earth friendly. i couldn't believe that motorcycle mama didn't know what composting was. *boggles*
