Olympic withdrawal

Now that the Olympics are over, I'm feeling oddly bereft. For the past two weeks I've been glued to the television. Yes, it's true! Our PVR broke a few weeks back and TV addict Greg has been complaining non-stop. It wasn't until I was in full-on Olympic fever that I realised what he was talking about. We ordered a new one and it should be here soon, but too late to record the volleyball/badminton/table tennis that goes on at 3 AM.

I usually only watch the winter games but this year I was really drawn in. Maybe it was the fact that this has been a first for China in hosting the games. Maybe it was to watch Canada's Men's Rowing team defeat "the curse" and win back to back; or the simple fact that I'm a sports fan. No matter. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was alternatively cheering on Canada and China. I've watched more television in the last two weeks than all year long. Well done, Beijing.

Some images that illustrate why I loved it so much:

Absolute perfection!

I was SO cheering him on.

In four years, the summer games will be on my home soil - England. I want us to go there so we can experience it all firsthand. I'd also like to introduce our kids to the place where I spent my childhood. In the more near future, the winter games will be here. I'm sure my Olympic glee and Canadian pride will be in full force. Can we do something about those awful Canadian uniforms? Please?
