Today marks the anniversary of September 11th. Like then, my family is
on holiday. I remember camping in the remoteness of Nova Scotia and
hearing the news on the wireless. It felt like a bad dream and
something that had to somehow be a mistake. Once we left the
mountains, we found out that it was indeed true and were still in
shock at the tragedy of it all. It makes me sad for my American
friends, whether they were personally affected by it or not. I think
as a country, the United States as a whole came together during that
horrible time.
A close friend of mine who's married to an American said for the first
time that they felt patriotic and wanted to hang a flag just in
remembrance. A sad anniversary, but let us remember those who gave
their lives trying to save others. It's a thankless job to be in
service of your country and the ultimate sacrifice to help those in
need. For 15 years, I was a navy wife and the possibility of losing my
husband because of his job was always a real possibility. Thank you to
all who tried to help others in need. Let us also remember the dogs
who gave their lives helping the firemen. Unfortunately, most people
forget about them but their sacrifice and bravery was just as great.
You will not be forgotten.
